Yanni’s Career Journey
Before starting his coaching career, announcing sports at a local radio station was the closest he had gotten to sports. While at it, he did his job so well that even his colleagues admired his love for sports. His partner tipped him to become either a top sports pundit or a coach in future.
After leaving the commentary job, Yanni enrolled as a student at Cornell University and while there, he landed a managerial role in the university basketball team. He then coached New Jersey Nets as an intern for a while before graduating in 2006. After graduation, Yanni got a chance to work under Coach Jeff Capel in Oklahoma as a graduate assistant coach.
Coaching under Capel proved to be Yanni’s stepping stone to career success for after three years, the coach made connections for him to join Harvard as an assistant coach. Even though he was not earning much, Yanni was dedicated to helping the team succeed. He recruited some of the best players the team ever had, and this impressed everyone in the basketball world. Since then, he has coached Cal and Vanderbilt, before landing his current job. None in the USA matches his reputation for identifying talent in young & promising players and recruiting them.
