Dick DeVos Now Hires A New CEO At The Windquest Group
Dick DeVos will still be overseeing most of the company operations at The Windquest Group, his Grand Rapids, MI investment and distribution firm. But he’s appointed a new CEO, Phil Dolci to take over the firm’s subsidiary The Stow Company, Inc. He’s succeeding the former CEO of this DeVos-owned company, Frank Newman who announced he’ll be stepping down this last year. Dick DeVos has looked in Dolci’s accomplishments, including his last gig as CEO of Crossman Corporation and is pleased with the experience and leadership that Dolci brings to The Stow Company, Inc. Dolci also has an MBA from Northwestern. This is yet another feather in the cap for Dick DeVos who has run many businesses and chaired non-profit groups, along with his wife Betsy over the last 30 plus years.
Dick DeVos is a member of the wealthy DeVos family, a Michigan family that has helped grow and develop so many businesses over the years in the state. His father, Rich DeVos co-founded Amway Corporation where Dick and his other two brothers Daniel and Douglas have all served as executives. Daniel is currently running DP Fox Ventures, another Grand Rapids based company, and Douglas is the current CEO of Amway Corporation, and chair of other companies and non-profits. Dick DeVos learned a lot from his father about running direct selling businesses, and as CEO of Amway from 1993-2002 he helped grow the profits of the company in excess of $4 billion. He was briefly president of the Orlando Magic from 1991-1993, and his father is still the majority shareholder of the team.
Dick DeVos and his wife Betsy have both aspired to help others in business, education, healthcare, and political activism and started the Dick & Betsy DeVos Foundation to do so. Dick served on the Michigan State Board of Education briefly in the early 90s, but decided he wanted to do more than just help set policies. He and Betsy helped start the Education Freedom Fund to provide scholarships for low income families, but they also have fought to pass more school of choice laws in the state and around the nation. They even helped start a public charter school called the West Michigan Aviation Academy.
The DeVos’s have given in excess of $90 billion to charities, including Potter’s House Christian School, Mars Hill Bible Fellowship, The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, the Kennedy Center’s Art Institute Project, and many more. Betsy DeVos is a former chair of the Michigan Republican Party, and Dick even ran in the 2006 gubernatorial race. He also sails in the Chicago-Mackinac race from time to time.
