As we reported yesterday, a petition has been circulating online that calls for a Boycott of VH1′s Basketball Wives Show as well as Evelyn Lozada’s spin off show (with hubby-to-be Ochocino). The reasoning? Fans are just about fed up with some of the ladies’ ratchet behavior in the last few episodes. Even fame seeking host Star Jones took to her twitter and encouraged a boycott earlier this week, tweeting:
It may be “comfortable” to be quiet when women of color slap the crap out of each other & run across tables barefoot, but #ENOUGHisENOUGH.
And the thought that the woman from #BBW who was smacked doesn’t have the RIGHT to file assault charges is LUDICROUS! #ENOUGHisENOUGH
Be mad. But think about what I said. WE ARE BETTER than that. You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution. #ENOUGHisENOUGH
The show’s creator Shaunie O’Neal and cast-member Tami Roman both sat down for interviews this week to respond to all of the hoopla and negativity surrounding this season. In an interview with Sister 2 sister magazine, Tami says that if anyone is to blame for their childish antics and how they are being portrayed on the show, it’s should be the producers of the show.
‘[...] Call out VH1 because I will join that battle. Why call for several people to be unemployed that really have nothing to do with the creative process?
“I come with my storyline and things that I want to introduce and low and behold what they want to show are those dramatic moments. There is more to us. I have thought about leaving, I would love to see a season 5 where VH1 and Shed Media are called out to show more positive things that we’re doing and show us how we are 90 percent of the time, instead of how we are 10 percent of the time. I would love to see the brand in and of itself go out on a more positive note. What they are seeing is a part of my personality. I’m not trying to take back my actions, but that’s not who I am all the time.
When asked about the recent fight involving Jennifer and Evelyn and her assistant Nia, Tami says that she doesn’t feel like it is her place to point fingers, however, she does think that Evelyn needs to change.
I can’t judge Evelyn [Lozada]. She has to work toward change. People don’t give us the benefit of the doubt or take that into consideration. Did Evelyn need to run over the table? Maybe not. Did Nia have to go over and slap Jennifer? Maybe not. I still don’t believe that warrants this big all-out movement against women who are really just showing our lives.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Hip Hollywood, Shaunie says that she doesn’t think that Evelyn’s behavior towards Jen this season could be considered bullying:
Sometimes It can be a bit of bullying going on because of the personalities being a lot stronger, you know like Evelyn’s personality is a lot stronger than Jen’s, so it does seem like its bullying but I don’t think Jen would think she’s bullied. I don’t think she would want to take that role of being bullied because I think she is strong in her own way. It’s just a different way of dealing with it.
People are like ‘Why do you let people say this and that?’ They are grown women but at the same time I will say, ‘You really need to bring that down like 17 notches like I don’t see why you need to come in at 50! You need to come in at like 13. Lets talk it out, let’s use our words’ , but it never ever works! Never works!
On shows that feature casts of predominantly women, many of the cast members come into production with an agenda of promoting themselves and figuring out how they can stand out from the rest so that they can get spin offs, book deals, modeling contracts, magazine covers, etc. The fact that Evelyn has a spin off only proves that the most outrageous and nastiest behavior gets rewarded. If she was a civilized individual, she would be a non-mutha****** factor.
Pop the hood to watch Shaunie talk Basketball Wives below:

All of it is bull and the young people who watch it is being brainwashed. I tell my youngsters to remember that there is a camera there otherwise you wouldn’t see them so this crap is fake….all about money. It doesn’t matter about the young impressionable minds they are influencing. Take the crap off. As far as I am concern you can take everything off television, even the news because its bull anymore.
True enough the show is a bit much, but no one is forcing you to sit there and watch it. Besides, I have seen a lot worse on Bad Girls Club (which is targeted towards the younger generation of girls) and I have heard no outcry or boycott about that show. Hell, Star even hosted a reunion show for BGC before! Compared to some of the foolishness that I have seen on BGC, the Basketball Wives are quite tame.
The story line and the name calling has really cause me and so many more to stop watching the show. All the back biting and profanity does nothing but increase the rating. The ignorance is that folks think that “THEY” represent all women of color…**NOT SO** and shame on the producers and co-signers of the show . The title should be changes to NO LONGER BASKETBALL WIVES and now we see WHY!
I think it is ashame how these grown suppose to be WOMEN are acting it is a disgrace to WOMANHOOD . But most of ASSAULT to just SLAP someone in the FACE and you dont think you should be charged with ASSAULT HELL YEAH charges should be FILED you cannot just put your hands on people and get away with it . If you ask me they all need help !!!
It’s a damn shame that grown women act like kids on a playground .They need to act like grown women and it seems that they are always picking on Jen, it seems that she maybe a little weaker then them in the ghetto dept and they and the just need to chill out. As far as Evelyn getting her own show can it wit that.. The friend of Evelyn’s the big argument should have been between her and Jen and Evelyn should have kept her damn nose out of it, cause it looked like her friend could take care of herself. And by the way I love Jen…
