The good doctor teamed up with the famed designer Oscar de la Renta, to release his custom, limited edition fox fur Beats By Dre headphones.
Needless to say the animal rights group PETA is not happy about this at all.
PETA rep Michelle Cho sent a letter to Dre, urging against the use of animal fur in his product line. ”We’re writing today after reading about your new fox-fur headphones design with Oscar de la Renta,” Cho wrote. “We wanted to get in touch to urge you to keep fur and exotic-animal skins out of your Beats by Dre designs. Foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals—including cats and dogs—are bludgeoned, genially electrocuted, strangled with wire nooses, drowned, and even skinned alive for their pelts. Most animals killed for their fur are slaughtered in China, where there are no penalties for those who abuse animals on fur farms.”
Dr. Dre and his reps have not released any comments as of yet. But at $695 a pop do we really want synthetic fur? Then again we don’t want to be on PETA’s bad side either. Decisions, decisons..what to do?
