Black Star reunites on stage in Los Angeles

Way back when – 1998 to be exact – established underground Hip-Hop sensations Mos Def and Talib Kweli teamed up to record the collaborative record Mos Def And Talib Kweli Are Black Star.

They’ve both stayed pretty active individually in the years since.  Mos Def caught the acting bug and hit the big screen appearing in movies such has The Italian Job, Brown Sugar and Monster’s Ball.

As for Kweli, he released his first solo album, Quality in 2002, followed by The Beautiful Struggle in 2004,  and his third solo album Eardrum in 2007 which debuted at the #2 spot on the Billboard 200.

Fast forward to 13 years later, the duo are back with a new release, set to drop early next year.  No U Ain’t Radio caught the group’s performance at Club Nokia in Los Angeles Thursday night.

The duo took the stage fashionably late, decked out in snazzy attire and led off with a strong new track, “You Already Knew.”  Not sure if it was just us, but after the firs song the chemistry between Mos and Kweli seemed a tad bit off.  Possibly because Mos’ overall performance paled in comparison to Kweli’s?  Things that make you go “hmmmmmmmmmm”?  Being that we’re fans of both artist, we were disappointed with the overall show.  They better come with it on their album!
